How this calculator works

American double rolls contain about 57 sq ft of paper, but usable coverage drops to roughly 50 sq ft with no pattern repeat, 44 sq ft with a repeat under 12 inches, and 38 sq ft with larger repeats. Rolls = area ÷ usable coverage, rounded up — and wallpaper is always sold in double rolls even when priced per single roll.

Frequently asked questions

How many square feet in a roll of wallpaper?

A standard American double roll contains about 57 sq ft, but plan on 44–50 usable after trimming and pattern matching. The 'single roll' price you see is usually half of a double roll that's only sold whole.

What does pattern repeat mean?

It's the vertical distance before the design repeats — printed on the label. To align the pattern across strips you trim off partial repeats at each cut, so a 24-inch repeat can waste 20%+ of every roll.

Should I order all rolls at once?

Yes, and from the same batch/run number. Dye lots differ subtly between production runs, and a mismatched roll is obvious on the wall. Order one extra roll for repairs.
