Cubic yards = square footage × depth in inches ÷ 324. Tonnage uses the standard conversion of 1.4 tons per cubic yard for common crushed stone and pea gravel (denser materials like DG run slightly higher). Cost uses the national average of about $40 per cubic yard for material, with a typical range of $15–$75 depending on stone type.
324 sq ft at 1 inch deep, 162 sq ft at 2 inches, 108 sq ft at 3 inches, and 81 sq ft at 4 inches. Just divide 324 by your depth in inches.
About 1.4 tons per cubic yard for typical crushed stone or pea gravel. Suppliers sell by the yard or the ton — this calculator gives you both so you can compare quotes.
A new gravel driveway needs 6–8 inches total, ideally built as two or three compacted layers: larger base stone (#3) at the bottom, mid-size in the middle, and a 2–3 inch top layer of smaller crushed stone (#57 or fines).
